Birch products
If you haven't already heard, Pirts Spirit loves all things birch, so it only makes sense that we dedicate a page to the goods this wonderful tree can give us..
Our suppliers in Latvia owns a large tree park where they plant new seedlings every year to expand and welcome more trees. They have over 100 different species of birch, maple, and walnut trees.
Birch sap is tapped from the trees in early spring. The roots of the birch draw water from the deepest layers of the earth. As it travels through the trunk, the sap becomes enriched with minerals. Once tapped, it can be enjoyed fresh or used to produce other birch sap products.
Packed with amino acids, minerals, enzymes, proteins, antioxidants, and vitamins C and B, birch sap is valued for its detoxifying, diuretic, cleansing, and purifying properties.

The chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) grows primarily on birch trees under certain climate conditions. It appears as a dark, hardened mass on the tree, often resembling burnt charcoal.
Chaga is typically harvested from birch trees during winter months when its nutrients are most concentrated. It is then dried and made into a powder that can be integrated into various different products that can be used for human consumption.
When consumed, Chaga offers numerous health benefits due to its high antioxidant content. Antioxidants help reduce the damaging effects of oxidative stress, which occurs when there are too many free radicals in the body. Everyday activities like breathing, exercising, and exposure to pollution can increase free radicals, so it's important to consume antioxidants to balance this out. While many foods contain antioxidants, Chaga is a particularly good source.
Chaga contains beta-glucans, which support the immune system, along with several other compounds that contribute to its anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities. These include betulinic acid, phenolic compounds, sterols, and melanin, all of which work together to reduce inflammation and promote overall health.
